Local school praised for its lunch program
Aurora Waldorf School of West Falls, an independent school providing an academic curriculum along with programs of movement, arts and practical skills, has been named A Food Revolutionary by Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Team. In awarding the title, Food Revolution officials praised the WNY school’s healthy food focus.
“Here at the Food Revolution, we love to hear stories about people in the community making changes to the food served in schools,” Oliver said. “At Aurora Waldorf School you have a good viewpoint on the ways to tackle school food change, and your efforts are certainly inspirational!”
Oliver’s London-based office learned about the local school’s healthy lunches through an online story featuring an interview with AWS Chef Heather Forrester. They followed up by contacting the school’s Marketing and Development Director Lisabeth Abt Pieters with a request for more information. Pieters stated that the contact fit perfectly into the AWS marketing plan.
“We had been planning on contacting Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution to let him know about our lunch program and were thrilled when they contacted us first!” said Pieters. “So, Chef Heather and I immediately put together photos and a comprehensive article highlighting our program.”
According to Forrester, the impact of Aurora Waldorf’s food revolution is evident in the students’ lives. “The positive effect this lunch program has had on the students, the staff and the school families has been amazing,” she said. “It’s also personally rewarding for a former pastry chef, turned healthy lunch chef! With the timing of this recognition from Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, our AWS community will be definitely be geared up for our new year of healthy school lunches!”
