Buffalo Wing Wear Takes Flight
Buffalo Wing Wear, LLC, a Buffalo-based online Chicken Wing Apparel retailer, has added a new line of “hot” Chicken Wing Hats to its product line. The new line of headwear is looking to fill a need for stylish hats that feature a Chicken Wing design. Prior to this launch, the options for Chicken Wing related hats and apparel were limited.
The new Headwear line includes Safari, Cadet and Baseball hats all of which have a unique embroidered Chicken Wing Design, with the Buffalo Wing Wear name underneath. The hats come in several colors to appeal to a wide audience. All the Headwear items are embroidered locally in Buffalo, NY. In addition to online sales at www.BuffaloWingWear.com, the new line of headwear is available at various Retailers and Gift Shops in Western New York.
“The new Chicken Wing Headwear, along with the original Necktie that was launched late last year, were developed in response to limited availability and options for Chicken Wing Apparel items”, notes Buffalo Wing Wear owner Susan Maher. “The Buffalo Wing Wear Men’s Necktie is appealing to the business wearer who is looking for a classier and tasteful novelty tie that expresses their love of Chicken Wings. The headwear is an extension of this idea with headwear that focuses on the Chicken Wing itself”.
Maher, who worked as a Project/Ops Manager for Citigroup in Amherst/Getzville for 28 years and is a lifelong Buffalonian, always wanted to open her own business; one that focuses on a product invented in her hometown was even more appealing. The idea for the original Chicken Wing Necktie came from when she couldn’t find one for a gift. “If you tried to find a Necktie with just Chicken Wings on it there weren’t any. I think there was one with a plate of wings as the design, but a necktie that just had Chicken Wings on it didn’t exist”.
In order to get a custom Necktie made, Maher had to spend long days trying to find a manufacturer that would take on her idea, especially since clothing manufacturers do not tend to work with startup companies. “It was definitely an eye-opener trying to find a vendor that would work with a small company to design and then make the neckties. I did find a manufacturer’s representative who was willing to give the idea a try, and I learned quite a bit about the apparel business along the way.”
“When we started with the new Headwear items, I was fortunate to find many high quality embroiderers in Western New York who could make the design I was looking for, and at a cost that was cheaper than the initial sample hats I had made in South Carolina. It really gave me a good feeling to know that the Chicken Wing Headwear could be made right here in Buffalo; the home of the where the Chicken Wing was invented.”
In addition to the new warm weather type hats, Buffalo Wing Wear also has various cold weather hats such as a Knit Beanie, Fleece headband and a Ski Tassel Hat that was especially popular this past winter.
“We are focusing on designing some additional style hats as well as other apparel by the fall”, noted Maher. “A Chicken Wing bandana is in the design stage - we want to have it ready for the National Buffalo Wing Festival in downtown Buffalo over Labor Day Weekend. The Chicken Wing Necktie will be for sale at the festival, and we hope some of the other apparel will be for sale there too.”
All of the Buffalo Wing Wear items are $20.00 or less on the www.BuffaloWingWear.com website, and are offered at comparable prices at various retailers throughout Western New York (a list of current retailers selling the apparel is on the ’Buy Local’ tab on the website). Buffalo Wing Wear is also available at some local festivals and events. The company will be sponsoring the Chicken Wing Eating Contest on June 19th at the Dunkirk, NY “Wreck and Roll Festival” that is occurring that weekend.
Maher concluded “Everyone loves to eat Chicken Wings, and now Buffalo Wing Wear gives everyone the option to show their love for the Chicken Wing on what they wear.”
